If you’re going to be anywhere near Panama City Beach, Florida this Labor Day weekend, you may want to head on over to Spinnaker Beach Club. The beach destination’s famous night club and restaurant is celebrating 40 years and is throwing one big weekend-long party.
Spinnaker Beach Club and Paradise Grill (as it is officially named) is cited by many as “the club that started it all”, referencing its ties to the Spring Break season and other various event occasions that Panama City Beach now hosts.
When Spring Break initially kicked off in Panama City Beach as an alternative destination to Daytona Beach, many wouldn’t have been able to foresee at the time that the North-West Florida spot would soon become heralded as the “Spring Break Capital of the World”. The beach town’s reputation as the student party capital was built by clubs like Spinnaker – still a major attraction for today’s spring break crowds.
Recognized and celebrated for hosting free live concert events and bringing in star power performers like Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffett and Green Day, the club plans to welcome back some of the live bands that regularly performed on its stages throughout every decade of the club’s existence.

Bands like Captain & the Kid – who will reunite specially for this event – Telluride, Frankie Golden, Noah’s Rain, and Shawn Rader Band are some of the live performers that helped put the club on the map since it opened in 1972 and will all perform again to commemorate this special anniversary occasion.
The fact that Spinnaker was among the first in the city, and has been able to survive the ups and downs of the club and restaurant business for 40 years, is quite an achievement.
The restaurant is popular not only with the locals, but with tourists who get to witness amazing views of the gulf while they eat. The indoor/outdoor environment is relaxed and service is always exceptional.
As for its trendy night club and concert bar scene, just ask any college student who’s ever come to PCB what they know about Spinnaker, and they’ll tell you that it’s one of the hottest places to be during Spring Break – and that publicity has been a good thing for driving new and repeat business over the years, without a doubt.
The 40th anniversary celebration kicks off Friday, August 31 and runs through Sunday, September 2.
